My Updates

Books #47 - #57

Tuesday 23rd Sep
We went and collected a bunch of books for Marko and Leo over the weekend. Marko's still reading the "Ninja Kid" series, as well as the "Hot Dog" series, more of the "Underdog" series, and a graphic novel version of "The Witches", which he loved! Leo's new favourite is one about Australian Firefighters, which he has been carrying around with him.

Book #46

Tuesday 23rd Sep
I've also started reading "Good Girl, Bad Blood" and so far I'm enjoying it as much as the first. Holly Jackson is a fabulous writer.

Book #45

Tuesday 23rd Sep
I'm re-reading "The Shining". It's been probably 20 years since I first read it, and it's incredibly engrossing.

Book #44

Monday 22nd Sep
I'm nearly finished "The Cousins". It's been a great read!

Book #43

Wednesday 17th Sep
I'm getting started on "My First Lesson" today. Having read "Laurinda" earlier in the year I'm looking forward to reading some young adult writers.
***My first DNF for this read-a-thon. Sorry, Alice Pung; this book was a "miss" for me.

Book #42

Tuesday 16th Sep
I'm also currently reading "Darius the Great is Not OK" and am also really enjoying it. I love the vivid descriptions of Iran and Iranian food and culture. Adib Khorram's depiction of depression is touching and apt, and I'm keen to see how the relationship between Darius and his father and grandfather will develop.
*Some time later.*
This book didn't disappoint! I loved seeing the relationship between Darius and his family deepen and change, and I loved how Darius' friendship with Sohrab grew. This was a delight.

Book #41

Tuesday 16th Sep
I'm really enjoying "Loveless" by Alice Oseman so far. If you liked the "Heart stopper" series, I think you would love this one.
*Some time later.*
This was a fantastic read! I loved the characters, the setting (mostly the University of Durham), and themes (finding out who you are, working through friendship issues, love in all its ways of being). Awesome.

Book #40

Monday 15th Sep
"Drift" by Pip Harry was excellent! So much so that I read it in a day. Highly recommend.

Book #39

Monday 15th Sep
As a self-professed Shakespeare nerd I've been looking forward to this one for awhile - long time actor, Harriet Walter, looks back at her illustrious career playing Shakespeare's female characters and fills in some narrative gaps. "She Speaks!" is great fun for those who love The Bard.

16 more books

Monday 15th Sep
Marko, Leo and I been making our way through these 16 books over the last couple of weeks; Marko really enjoyed Frog Squad, Max Meow, and the Ninja Kid series, and Leo loved "How a City Works" and "Emergency!"

Books #21 and #22

Wednesday 10th Sep
I'm still making my way through "The Yield". I'm up to page 165 and still not really enjoying it all that much, which is a little disappointing. I'm determined to finish it though. Marko was re-reading more "Ninja Kid" books last night, and Leo and I read another one of his favourites; "Emergency". He adores any kind of emergency vehicle, and mistakenly seems to think if he asks for them they will magically appear.

Book #20

Monday 8th Sep
Another book I've been meaning to read for awhile... "The Yield" by Tara June Winch. I'm 55 pages in so far, and while I'm liking it, I'm not loving it. I'm very interested to know what happened to Jedda, though, and I love learning about Albert's past and language through his "dictionary" entries, so I will persist!
*Some time later...*
I finished it! Glad I persisted, as it definitely got better as it went. What a sad, poignant read.

Book #19

Monday 8th Sep
Another current favourite of Leo's; "Nerdy Babies in Space".

Book #18

Monday 8th Sep
Not to be outdone by his big brother Leo read "Things That Go".

Books #11 - #17

Monday 8th Sep
I am so proud of Marko, his reading has really taken off this year! Over two days he read books #15 - #20 of "The Bad Guys" series. He also read book #2 of Minecraft Manga.

Book #10

Monday 8th Sep
I read "Life on the Refrigerator Door" over the weekend. It was a great, poignant, quick read. The entire book is composed of letters between a daughter and her mother stuck to their fridge door, and it really gets you appreciating every moment.

Book #9

Monday 8th Sep
"Where is the Green Sheep" is a real favourite of Leo's as well.

Book #8

Monday 8th Sep
This is Leo's favourite book at the moment. We pretty much read it every night.

Book #7

Monday 8th Sep
Marko has really been enjoying the Ninja Kid series. Here he is reading book 6.

Book #6

Wednesday 3rd Sep
Last night Marko read "Max Meow; Cat Crusader", and I got a bit more than halfway through "One of Us is Lying". Still not sure who killed Simon, but I have some theories going! I like how this is a bit like the movie "The Breakfast Club", but with murder in it.

Book #5

Wednesday 3rd Sep
Big brother Marko loves reading to his little brother, Leo. (Not 100% sure if this one counts, as it's an activity book!)

Book #4

Tuesday 2nd Sep
For my next read I have finally gotten a hold of a copy of "One of Us is Lying". Again, this is basically ALWAYS out of the Library, so I am excited to get into it! *Some time later...* This was worth the wait! I have to admit, I did manage to figure out whodunnit about halfway through, so the ending wasn't a surprise, but I enjoyed this none-the-less. I particularly liked the love story between odd couple Bronwyn and Nate, and Addy taking out the trash (I never liked Jake and I was so thrilled when they broke up!).

Books #2 and #3

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Last night Leo and I read "Spot's Happy Halloween".

Book #1 finished

Tuesday 2nd Sep
I just finished "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder". What a great novel! Lots of twists and turns, and a very satisfying ending. Pip was a fabulous heroine, and Holly Jackson skilfully managed to inject some humour to help lighten up this dark tale full of secrets.

My kids have decided to join me on my reading challenge! Last night Marko and I read "Journey to the Lost Temple".

Book #1

Monday 1st Sep
Excited to get underway with this readathon! I've been looking forward to reading "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" since I started at Kambala, as it's basically always borrowed. It's on my desk and I'm ready to get into it.
